What kid doesn’t love bubbles?! π Sadly, there are some big heavy hitters hiding in those bottles with smiling bubbles and cartoon characters. Your child’s pruney little fingers and toes are evidence of how long they’ve been soaking in alllll those ingredients. The heavy hitters include…
Fragrance β potentially up to 3K undisclosed ingredients hiding under this one word, most often including phthalates which mess with our hormones
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) β moderately concerning with connection to skin irritation, organ toxicity & environmental toxicity
PEGs β frequently contaminated with toxins like 1, 4-dioxane which is a known carcinogen… most manufactures do no take the extra step to remove or reduce it
Parabens β linked to cancer… most commonly breast cancer
Phenoxyethanol β neurotoxin & listed as a core allergen, even in concentration as low as 1% by the American Society of Contact Dermatitis
Lake Dyes β crude oil petroleum based dyes that when not be refined enough are linked to cancer
Don’t be fooled by these marketing terms as they do not necessarily = clean & safe:
“Pediatrician Recommended” (anyone can easily find one doctor to recommend a product)
“Gentle” (no regulation defining what ingredients are or not gentle)
“Hypoallergenic” (no testing is required for this claim)
“Plant Based” (plant based products can still sneak in harmful ingredients)
“Natural Fragrance” (not regulated and a company can take a component of a plant and heavily alter it and still claim it’s naturally derived. Check a company’s FAQ or contact them directly to see if they’ll disclose details to ensure it’s okay)
While we don’t use traditional bubble bath with our girls, here are a few clean options!

My personal preference is unscented products when possible with littles under two.
