Hi There!
I’m Angela. I’m a wife, homeschooling mom of 2, and binge researcher. I’m in accounting by trade, but my passion lies in helping women clean up the products they use on their bodies and in their homes. Wherever you are in your journey towards toxin free living, I’d love to walk alongside you as you make choices to live a healthier life.
My own journey started in 2009. Like many, the first step was with food. I was in college, and aside from knowing to eat more fruits and vegetables, I wasn’t aware of what I should avoid. The extent of my knowledge was one type of ingredient, hydrogenated oils. Even with limited income, I tried my best to only choose food that did not contain hydrogenated oils. Since it was only one ingredient, it simply meant my peanut butter needed a good stir before use and I was a little pickier on which processed food I bought. However, it was a step that seemed manageable to stick with, and that’s what matters.
Over the years, my next steps included choosing organic for the Dirty 12™ whenever possible, limiting processed food more, and I started looking at my personal care products. In the beginning, I knew NOTHING about ingredients. I trusted companies and their fancy marketing terms – aka greenwashing (where a company markets their product as clean but it actually has ingredients that are harmful). I looked for words like natural, paraben free, and fragrance free on the front, but I never turned a bottle around to see what actually was in those products. Who knew what those ingredients were anyway?! I did my best at the time.
When I found out we were expecting our first child, I took my first steps into ingredient research. Even before diving into toxin free living, my husband Ryan & I researched before most purchases. So with our first child on the way, there was a lot of baby items to research! To try to avoid getting too overwhelmed, my “toxin free researching” really focused on baby’s personal care products. I knew newborn skin was delicate, and I didn’t want scary ingredients on my baby. Looking back now, I know some of my picks weren’t squeaky clean, but they were on the right path.
As time went on, when an item was almost running out, I would choose a safer product. Even though I had been on the journey for years at this point, I was still relatively new with ingredients. Sometimes I would get tricked by greenwashed marketing. I began working on my list of ingredients to look for – the questionable ones I’d try to avoid, and the ones I’d refuse to use.
In February of 2019, just a few months before my 2nd would be born, I decided to partner with a company to help spread awareness for the importance of toxin free living. I began an intimate Facebook community to share all my toxin free information with friends and family. It became a safe place for women to learn what products were safe for their family and where you can find better alternatives to mainstream products we’re used to. The community evolved over the years, and now I share the same type of information on my Instagram and Facebook pages.
Since then, I have switched out the majority of our house for clean options. Do we live 100% toxin free? No. I try to follow an 80/20 rule. I try to do my best with most of the things I can control. Things we use every day like personal care products, our dishes, and our food staples are clean with a few exceptions. I am particular about most of our lifestyle and don’t worry about the rest!
My desire is to make the toxin free transition as simple as possible and walk alongside you as you make proactive choices to live a cleaner, healthier life. I know how challenging it can be to want to make better choices yet you’re overwhelmed with all the information to know where to begin. I’ll share all the toxin free knowledge I’ve acquired over the years and some new things as I learn them.
Let’s do this journey together!
Angela
